A large chunk of long-form posts on social media — LinkedIn especially — is now clearly machine-generated. Once you see the pattern, you can’t unsee it: fluent, structured, and oddly hollow.
But what me mad was a conversation with someone I’ve always thought of as incredibly intelligent. He said, quite matter-of-factly, that writing and writers could be replaced by AI. That stayed with me. It made me ask a more useful question: what part of writing is actually being made worthless, and what part was never just technique to begin with?
So, this column was born between data and anger.
